Why do Chinese people look at you strange when you do Kung Fu?

I talk to Chinese people and they find it strange that here in Sydney Australia that many people who are not Chinese do Kung Fu and Chinese basically dont. Why is it that the Chinese want to be western and get into celebrity and clubbing culture and westerners are into there culture like Kung Fu and Tai Chi. It is almost as if they dont like non-Chinese doing there MA's and being into their culture. Are they threatened.....my experiences with the Japanese are totally different|||Maybe asking in the Society and Culture (I don't actually know what it's called) section would get you better responses.

I think that everyone wants a bit of difference in their lives, and that we're not satisfied with sticking to the norm.|||To be honest with you, that's a problem as old as the world itself.

People are rarely satisfied with their culture, or they are just "coping" with it because their parents did, so did their parents and so on. When you are out of a culture that doesnt seem to be important to you, and when you find someone struggling to get this culture or parts of it, that really appears to be odd to you.

Now as for the kung fu thing:

1) It might be your perception that people look at your kung fu BECAUSE they don't do it themselves. Well, to be honest it might also be because you aint doing it the right way, or the way they use to see in their country.

2) As for the Japanese, they are alot more open minded about their culture, in other word, they dont give a **** about it, while Chinese people really regard their culture as part of their daily life, and those Chinese who dont, they "westernize" !!! (and they are the ones that give looks to u)|||I've never had them look at me strange when I do kung fu. I've had them come running out of the kitchen and take a break from waiting tables to come over and watch while we did kung fu in the banquet room at the restaurant. The pretty waitresses giggle, whisper to one another, and clap.

I don't know why your experience is so different.|||Are u talking about Chinese immagrants or are u talking about Chinese people born in ur country? They have different views. Have u considered that maybe its just u? Maybe ur weirding them out. Try being urself.

Im no expert on u people in Australia but i am Chinese. Ive met people that just try too hard to be friendly or to fit in. Its borderline offensive. Just give them time to get used to u.|||Well if a Chinese guy started dressing and acting like Crocodile Dundee and chucking boomerangs you'd probably look at them strange. Don't lie, you totally would.
