Why do those people in chinese kung fu movies fight so well? ?

It's like they can all beat up 4th/5th degree blackbelts like they're nothing... Like Jet Li stuff.|||They are both expert martial artists, and expert choreographers; if you put people in and say "okay, stage a fight, fake it, this is choreography," you put in poorly trained people and its going to look sloppy, even though its fake. Even choreographed moves need to be clean, crisp, and for that you need someone who knows what they're doing. Could you for example, do a Van Damme style jumping spinning kick? Would it be perfect, and would it be crisp and clean? Incidentally Van Damme is a fraud; the reason that famous jumping spining kick of his looked so good was because he did ballet in Belgium. Yes that is correct; Van Damme was not a martial arts champion, he was a ballet dancer.

So anyway; even with a marathon of takes and cuts, people are going to look sloppy, again, if they don't know what the hell they're doing. Charlize Theron had to do 3 months, 6 hours every day, of Capoeira for her role in "Aeon Flux" and hey, look at the results. Not only did Capoeira, plus she too had a ballet background, help her with putting in some of her own flips and rolls in there, it also helped her wire fu. In other words, wire fu is aided by real martial arts training because it gives you a sense of balance that allows you to work better with wires obviously, its a matter of common sense.

In other words Gyllenhaal has a tall order to fill with prince of persia; Theron was able to give a masterful choreography performance that was done so well it almost looked real. The choreography was so gracefully done, you got the impression that there were skilled fighters going at it, not "fake" fighters. So, what is Gyllenhaal's excuse? Even with wire fu, you need agility stuff and hey, it was hard for Theron because she's 5'10, which is tall for a woman. If anything it was tougher on her because not only is she tall, women's muscles are not as strong either. Also, pro wrestlers twice the size of Gyllenhaal can do hand stands, back flips, amazing rolls, cartwheels, you name it. In other words height is no excuse man; everyone is alreaby b*tching about the movie being miscast so he'd better give a Theron like performance in terms of skill. Better make it worth everyone's 8 bucks is all I'm saying.

The combination of real world martial arts backgrounds which makes it so that they have more coordination than the majority of people, also makes it so that they have the coordination necessary to stage a fight that looks good, a staged fight with exagerated moves, outrageous acrobatics, and of course wire fu. The better you are at real martial arts, that is the better your sense of balance, the better your agility, the more graceful your wire fu. Part of the reason the cast of the Matrix looked good, is because all the "warrior" characters trained for 8 hours a day. Carrie Ann Moss, Hugo Weaving, and of course Keanu Reeves. Lawrence Fishbourne reportedly lost 50 lbs while filming the original matrix, but in the subsequent films he seemed to have gained it back.

The training was so brutal, multi million dollar paycheck and all, Reeves has been quoted as saying he doesn't want to do another martial arts action flick ever again in his life. Also, if you are into that sort of movie, we can count our blessings because Jean Claude Van Damme is burned out; because of audience demands, you simple can not do an action film anymore without having the athleticism of an olympic athlete. Not only do you need to know how to act for entertainment purposes, you also need to be an olympic caliber athlete if you are planning on doing action movies.

later.|||Its all choreographed. The stars and stuntmen have been trained to have good timing. The shouts and grunts that you hear are actually signals that they use to communicate the timing with one another.

Plus the stuntmen are mostly trained in martial arts and many of the stars themselves are martial artists.

|||Its a movie. They're supposed to look good. You do know that the fighting is choreographed right? Most of these "fighters" don't actually know how to fight; they're just stuntmen trained to perform in these CHOREOGRAPHED fight scenes.|||They are paid to look good. It is a staged fight. You do this and I do that. It has been said. It is a movie. Some of those guy are trained martial artist. Others only know to do in their scene. After so many retakes they can edit it until it looks good to the untrained eye.|||It is a movie. You're allowed to do anything in a movie, especially look good.|||Martial artists that you see in kung fu movies have extensive and years of training. They are black belts themselves. |||Choreographed for movies, of course.|||one word. Training.

lots of it is just Hollywood junk but some of them have the real deal.|||Am I the only one who can tell that he's joking? I mean, at least I think he's joking... |||Maybe because ITS A MOVIE!
